Crochet Snowflake – Free Written Pattern

❄️ Simple Crochet Snowflake

Skill level

Beginner–Easy

Finished size

Approx. 8–10 cm (3–4 in), depending on yarn & hook

Materials

• White yarn (cotton works best for crisp snowflakes)

  • Fingering/sport / DK weight

• Crochet hook: 2.5–3.5 mm

• Scissors

• Yarn needle

• (Optional) starch or fabric stiffener

Stitches (US terms)

• ch = chain

• sl st = slip stitch

• sc = single crochet

• dc = double crochet

• tr = treble crochet

Pattern

Round 1 (Center ring)

1. Make a magic ring
   (or ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring)

2. Ch 1, 12 sc into the ring

3. Join with sl st to first sc

👉 You now have 12 stitches

Round 2 (Base spokes)

1. Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc + ch 2)

2. Dc in the same stitch

3. Ch 2, 2 dc in next stitch

4. Repeat (ch 2, 2 dc in next stitch) around

5. Join with sl st to the 3rd chain of the beginning ch

👉 You should have 12 DC clusters with chain spaces between

Round 3 (Snowflake points)

Work into each ch-2 space:

1. Sl st into ch-2 space

2. Ch 3

3. 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr in same space

4. Ch 3, sl st in same space

➡️ This creates one snowflake point

Repeat in every ch-2 space (12 points total)

Finish

• Fasten off

• Weave in ends

• (Optional) Lightly starch and pin flat to dry for a crisp snowflake look

Optional Hanging Loop

• Attach yarn to any point

• Ch 12–15

• Sl st back into same point

• Fasten off
